Boating license

Our school is acknowledged by Navigation Office. It provides training for the following boating permits:

  • Cat. "A" permit, required to drive boats equipped with motors above 6 kw power (4.4 kw on Bodensee).
  • Cat."D" permit, required to drive sailboats with sail surface exceeding 15 m2. (12 m2 on Bodensee).
  • International yachtmaster's certificate.

Cat. A et D permits are valid for inner water navigation (lakes and rivers).
They are delivered by Canton of residence, nevertheless, they are valid throughout Switzerland.
Upon demand, an international certificate can be obtained.

To obtain A and D permits, following procedure is required:

  • Send permit application to Canton of residence.
  • Pass theory exam.
  • Pass practical exam.

No "temporary" permit is delivered for boat-driving. If they wish, candidates can start their practical training, accompanied by a permit holder, before having passed theory exam or even before having sent permit application. However, registration for theory exam requires previous permit application. Registration for practical exam can be done only after having passed theory test.
Training with a professional school is not mandatory, but strongly recommended.
Candidates wishing to pass exams in another Canton must obtain an authorisation from Canton of residence.
